I still don't understand how the Novosorb provides long term hernia repair if it is absorbed into the body? There must be a heightened chance of the hernia reoccurring when compared to a permanent mesh. The article Sojourner references indicates this: 'Nevertheless, after prosthesis absorption, the resulting scar tissue is not as strong as it was, and alone is insufficient to provide the needed strength and could result in hernia recurrence.'
Yes there are some problems with permanent mesh as well so it becomes a trade-off, but I'm not clear how Novosorb will take the hernia market by storm if Doctors are not confident that the new method provides a long term solution? Even if it is just the perception that absorbable mesh doesn't provide as good a long term solution, won't it take years to generate the evidence to prove that the perception is wrong? I haven't seen this answered by Polynovo anywhere?
