i suggest one of two paths:
1. maintain the idea Middle Eastern people are all animals therefore be unconcerned about them/us. No need to intervene in their brutal wars
2. see the light. Syria is a pluralistic society protected by the Assad gang (sure, who have also taken some right wing economic privileges) for decades from US backed Saudi Wahhabism
