4DS - Anything but Charting, page-4114

In no way would it suit WDC to bring attention to 4DS technology.. The fact they have left it out of the mix is telling me they're trying to bury it.

I too was very sceptical of the cheap licensing agreement, but after looking into how technology disseminates through the markets, I no longer feel that the additional competition will in any way hurt the market. Just the opposite.
It's very possible I'm wrong, but I can't think of a single technology that's been cornered by a single company that has flourished.
If someone can think of a reasonable example, please let us know.. I'm keen to listen.
I can easily name off several that did flourish with multiple manufacturers...
HDD
Flash
DRAM
CD-ROM
DVD
Blu-Ray
..... and the list goes on and on..
IP licenses were extended to manufacturers with all of these techs at one point in time and the owners of that IP flourished as well.
