I'm not convinced it's a shorter. If a large holder were to simply dump large volumes of their shares on market (cough* La Mancha* cough), depress the price and then buy all calls, knowing the price depression was caused only by their action, then they'd stand to reap a big, leveraged bonus when the SP recovered back to fair value.
