The link between 3 Mile and Lance is not a direct one - Lance was a victim of the overall impact of the 3 Mile Incident. This is as I understand what happened in a nutshell!

3 Mile was in Pennsylvania - 1979. Thing is that immediately after it, the US gvt did a full a review of nuclear and in the end it was a pretty pivotal point in turning off the development in Nuclear reactors etc that had been happening in the preceding years. Back then the world saw many more other fuel alternatives and were also scared of the health and obvious security implications of nuclear as so the risks outweighed the benefits. The development of new reactors was stopped and as such those who were positioning to service the industry were no longer viable.

Things are changing now, the whole fuel and environmental scenario is changing so much, which is why now we are seeing alot of junior Aussie and Canadian companies picking up these old leases and plants as the industry starts to grow again - assuming we can mitigate risk, and the demand increases, then they are back to viability.
