@Ashentegra The image above shows a comparison for the 11th Jan 2020. Left is the SA region demand/price, middle is BESS(red is charging), and right is Lake Bonny 1. The interesting thing to note is that when the price goes negative, the wind farm output to the NEM drops to zero instantly while the battery is charging. The wind hasn't dropped so they have turned off the NEM feed. The battery can charge from this as well as the grid oversupply. As we know this is a good way to optimise your resources and income with large supply /price variability in the market.
This also confirms the idea that IFN can internally divert energy when co-located and be more black box in terms of internal power arbitrage.
If the battery is big enough and the generation diversion is significant, theoretically they could temporarily withhold supply from the NEM grid like OPEC does with oil to support the price or at least reduce the drop into negative territory. At the moment I don't think the power volumes are big enough but for a large player it could be a significant advantage to have a large gen/battery pairing that can impact the market price....
