It is the Diagram in the above thumbnail that tells me they are going to use the Translucent technology, because IQE could only ever go to 200mm with what they did have before Translucent, because they were using cut Silicon wafers whereas now they are now using 300mm wafers, based on the cSOI tech for producing virtual Silicon on which they also add a buffer layer to lattice match to any rare earth placed on the top of the wafer.
The trouble they had before when they were using cut Silicon wafers without lattice matching was that the substrate cracked a lot of the time during the process, by going from 200mm wafers to 300mm wafers, they get nearly twice as many chips, and the fact that they are cSOI or virtual silicon makes them much much cheaper, IQE should pick up a very big slice of the market I believe?
IQE say they have about 120 patents to cover their technology, they make a big deal of it. But 87 of those patents came from Translucent Inc.
