Hey, I was down Queanbeyen way at the end of August and thought I'd check out DYE's new digs. Hmmmmm.

All I got was a bloody speeding ticket. The wallopers in Canberra have apparently nothing else to do but hide out behind bushes with speed guns on some of the best urban roads in Australia. Keelty and his keystone cops...

Anyway when I was there the new factory was still cordoned off as a construction site (contrary to what was reported in an announcement from about then). The shed itself is not very big (put it this way, it is plenty big enough for Sylvia to park her Prius in but not big enough to hangar any private jets she and Gav might be thinking of buying).

Apparently they are keeping the original building which currently houses its R&D team (I've been inside once and it was a rabbit warren - can't believe it wouuld meet OH&S standards), and are moving the admin and executive teams from temporary space a few streets away into some new strata office space at the back of the new facility. But when I was there the strata units were still totally unoccupied as well.

From what I can work out, this new production facility is months late in coming on stream and yet no explanation from the company. Even so, the original building is still sufficient for them to fill orders so obviously sales of muck is not going gangbusters.

So all in all fairly unimpressive. Same old same old.

I expect that with the incoming US president, either kahuna's chip guy or Obama, the yanks will finally pull their fingers out regarding alternative energy and if DYE has not got sufficient momentum up by next year it risks being blown out of the marketplace.
