Was electricity used to generate the hydrogen to begin with?! Might be various levels of sources involved in the full cycle?! Interesting yes!
On another note, I recall the fundamental efficiency of hydrogen FC vs BEV leaves BEV the clear winner, with about 20% energy loss from original electricity generation to the wheels for BEV, compared to about 70% loss for HFC... or something like that? There was a nice schematic floating around a while back.
Not to mention the “petrol station model” for hydrogen that removes the ability to (ultimately) power your car from your own solar power and battery storage system, and do away with a reliance on whatever those “fuel stations” want to charge for filling ‘er up...
I think Toyota is dreaming and wasting time and money chasing HFC tech for passenger vehicles...
