Yes, SYD will open down disproportionally tomorrow. Shame how these things get overblown. To put it in perspective, 3-5 million people worldwide annually still get severe illness from the flu around the world and anywhere from 300-500,000 related deaths and probably around a quarter of these are in China. Lets average that out at 2,000 flu related deaths a week in China and suddenly 56 deaths in a month doesn't seem quite so dire - though of course any death is awful. Chinese data doesnt reflect these figures as it only reported direct deaths from flu, not indirect like pneumonia.
People should be taking similar precautions for the flu just the same as they should coronavirus, its clearly more apt to kill them than the latter.
Looks like mortality rates for this are lower than SARS at around 2-3%, but transmission looks higher - though that may be as much as reporting being better now than with SARS.
