IMO, anything less than edge-based, self-learning autonomy, will not be tolerated by regulators.
Driver ASSISTANCE, sure that may flourish in the short term, but in the end, even 5G's latency and the reality of blackspots will rule out any tolerance of cloud-based DRIVERLESS solutions. And Uber, Lyft, Alphabet etc are learning that, even if it is (unfortunately) one fatality at-a-time.
The upcoming April conference ferreted out by Rayz, with all the heavies participating, will be salutary. I think that will signal the changing of the guard, where deep learning and cloud-base AI falls into near disrepute for all but simple, low-reliance solutions.
And all that holds true, even before raising the in-the-face question of power consumption of the "old" and "new" technologies.
Now who's best placed to leverage this technology shift????
