Thanks Andrix. No, I am not saying the older WFs are useless or broken. I say the paradigm has shifted. The new giant 13Mw turbines are better by a magnitude and IFN has to step up to this new level. If it builds Flyers Creek with 3.5Mw turbines, it must be Capital Lite with a PPA.

Meanwhile, adding batteries to older WFs to shift low value intermittent generation to premium peak demand times is genuinely transformative and guarantees their continued relevance - though coming power price falls might play havoc with capital values.

In land-constrained Germany, older smaller turbines are being removed and replaced with the big ones. Australia has an abundance of very low value land, so it is likely better to keep going Greenfield construction - provided grid connection is practical. The almost-announced SA to Wagga interconnect opens large areas of Western NSW semi-desert to WFs. No doubt IFN is eyeing off this opportunity.
