First of I have stated I agreed with the mandatory detention policy

The way the libs managed this policy was the problem

But you and your mates keep referring to illegal immigration, still waiting for one of you to explain that if these people are infact illegal immigrants, why were that not deported as such and why did the courts after applying the law and international conventions rule the vast majority of them to be legitimate refugees.

As to the boats loads of people slowing to a near stop, please go back and look at the last 30 years.

It started back after the vietnam war when boat people started arriving, at times there have been periods when there have been no arrivals other times it appears there is a constant flow of them.

Various things have lead to the flows stopping, changes to the situation in the country the people are fleeing from, co-operation with other governments as was the more recent situation when the Australian government sought and obtained co-operation from the Indonesians and things like manadatory detention.

Which I have already stated I agree with the policy, but this does not justify the treatment these people received in these centres and the amount of time they were held.
