I must confess, I'm a bit like you brahms. I get half an idea about a stock and research more deeply after. I'm no expert so I can't answer your question properly except that I believe it takes many independent computers, miners, to verify blockchain activities, thus Ethereum's problems with scale. This system would be different from the current that banks etc. are using now. Maybe there's someone else here who can answer you better.
