I wonder whether Macquarie is actually going to get smashed again on the movement in the leverage it used to acquire a lot of its assets. In boom times, these boys were using the carry trade (ie short JPY and long AUD) to finance a lot of their acquisitions. If they have still got some of those on, well, you can kiss goodbye to MQG. That's the leverage all these guys were using. Look to Japanese banks now declaring their positions on some of these investment banks. Hmmmmm......
