That's why you need to get a detailed shareholders register so everyone, not just those that are on HotCopper, can be asked to kick the can.
If you can ask everyone to pay based on shareholding you might get more on board. As someone else said, if you only have $5k in CLI bit hard to get them to kick in a lot. In my experience you only normally get back about 20% of your loss, so spending $1k for upfront costs doesn't make any sense.
