Naked shorting is akin to allowing you to go into the neighbouring town and sell a sell a whole heap of investment apartments you don't own just as a developer releases a new block.

You shouldn't be able to make the market price for something you neither own, nor have interest in owning, and for which you are setting the price on anticipation of other peoples emotional or distressed response.

Capitalism is about funding businesses, and relies on confidence. Abusive shorting practises are about confidence, and thereby destruction of the ability to fund and build businesses and economies.

When shorting is to the extent that it manipulates the price, rather than merely being in anticipation/response to a falling price then imho it is both abusive and destructive.

That said imho CVN's price fall was due to market fear rather than shorting of CVN stock - but could be wrong on that. There are some nasty manipulative market practices atm.
