The reason for the ban on short selling, at least as expressed in parliament, was to stop international players who couldn't short their own markets due to rule changes, from attacking ours. Seems fair enough as a temporary measure. Those who accuse the regulator of overreacting, may themselves be overreacting to what is a temporary measure. On the other matter, I would have thought that capitalists have played a greater role in producing the current malaise than have communists.
