Hi Guys,
Just a thought for the ones suggesting a mine closure at Century
It has already been stated by the company that supply contracts are in place, If any of you have ever been in business, can you imagine saying to your customers, sorry people, as from next month we are closing operations for the duration, find yourself another supplier for thousands of tons of Zinc.
Then when things improve, calling them and saying, we are up and rolling guys, when do you want the next shipment.
This is a huge operation, something like 50 odd huge trucks valued at over $4 mill each not to mention the other infrastructure.
As long as there is a profit to be made, at a reasonable level, it is better to keep things rolling, particularly with your present customers/Refiners.
I realise that it depends on world Zinc prices but this is a huge, low cost operation which cannot be switched off and on like a light bulb.
I'm definitely not in favour of producing at a loss or even very close to it, but from my understanding that is not the case at this mine.
Regards, Rob.
