Federal Families Minister Jenny Macklin has attacked Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull over his commitment to help aged pensioners.

Ms Macklin has seized on a newspaper report that alleges Mr Turnbull voted against the Opposition's plan to give single aged pensioners an extra $30 a week.

She has told Channel 10 that pensioners will see through Mr Turnbull.

"He doesn't believe in increasing the pension," she said.

"He slapped their shadow minister for aging down and said that as far as he was concerned there would be no increase in the base rate of the pension.

"So I don't think pensioners can rely on Malcolm Turnbull."
