Exactly - also one should not forget the effect of margin lending .... over bullish individuals are often maximally leveraged (aka borrowed to the max) and are very vulnerable to a margin call if the LVR is breeched - in such situations, some (foolishly) throw more money in ... only delaying the margin call that requires stocks to be sold, in which case winners and losers are sold off ... sometimes winners more than losers as the latter's liquidity dries up and sellers are staring huge losses in the face (the worst time to sell under performers ) and hence sell some winners to cancel out losses.
They tell themselves they're being clever avoiding 'capital gains tax' ..... Short term traders react to stop losses etc, to minimise losses and preserve capital .... position traders who have based their purchases on a combination of macro and micro economic fundamentals of which the gold price is the most fundamental should nit one spooked (at least for now) A cursory glance at the latest gold prices should remind one that gold miners like SLR are still making record profits at record margins and are likely to continue ... during and post Corona stock market correction.
I'm not suggesting that SLR or RED or whatever stock is at best bargain prices .... they may go lower and hence be very attractive to those without significant exposure to golds upside ..... but everybody should have cash reserves .... Macquarie's 200c SLR valuation remains current.
SLR is not likely to waste its cash reserves on a token dividend in a market that wont appreciate it .... but SLR surely has a list of acquisitions that it hopes are cheapened by the current chaos and credit crunch. My new sell target for SLR is 200c .... unless I need some spending money.
