Excellent chance the PDF will be scaled back, perhaps turned into a processing plant for condisoil. Such a waste of $90m.
But no way will Kal not go ahead. Lynas or any other company for that matter whos been paying attention will not invest in Malaysia. There is nothing stopping this charade happening again. Nothing structural has happened to the system. And downstream REE industry? Forget it! How could a Siemens or magnet maker not consult with Lynas and ask whether they'd recommend opening a manufacturing plant in Malaysia? And how could Lynas recommend it and keep a straight face?
Malaysia have skillfully navigated themselves from a position of Lynas on its knees to their demands to now having Lynas ready and able to replace Malaysia production elsewhere at the drop of a hat.
By 2023 Lynas will tell Malaysia how it's going to operate or it will simply leave the country.
