PNG is like being in a parallel Universe. Anything you know about doing business in Australia or indeed many other parts of the world has to be tipped on it's head.

The real reason that most citizens in PNG still live in poverty has nothing to do with the major companies who have spent billions of dollars developing world class assets in very trying conditions and paying billions in royalties over the years. It is directly related to the blatant and rampant corruption with successive Governments, Prime Ministers, Cabinet Ministers, senior public servants and whoever else can get their snouts and trotters in the trough.

BHP got smart many years ago by pulling up stumps at Ok Tedi and never going back into PNG. There are other fish to fry.
