I saw a program a year ago (New Inventors or Catalyst on the ABC) that was discussing actual artificial / man-made Photosynthesis (what plants do in the leaves when they absorb CO2 and sunlight to produce Oxygen and sugars) . Platinum was considered the perfect metal in the processes that had be achieved in the lab, but it was too expensive for substantial and potentially commercial enterprise .
However, with the price of Platinum continung to collapse and soon to be passed by gold I speculate, the photosynthesis scientists will soon have their platinum at bargain basement prices if any company can afford to produce it .
