The sequence you describe is pretty fundamental stuff and absolutely makes sense.
The bit I don't see as rational is how stockpiling toilet paper = self-preservation. Food, and medicine I could understand but there appears to be plenty of these far more essential items on the shelves. Maybe I should start scurrying Mission Impossible style around ALDI buying every bit of laundry detergent and post a video on Facebook to see if I can trigger a run on it as well.
I'm also wondering what happens to supply chain when people realise they now have a 2 year supply of bog roll stacked in the laundry and stop buying it on a regular basis.
What should have been a demand blip has turned into an irrational panic.
