India's demand for silver is expected to strengthen in the next few weeks owing to festivals even as prices are expected to move higher, dealers and an analyst said on Wednesday.
An inauspicious period Shradh that would last till the end of the month has curtailed demand, but some dealers said many are buying to prepare for festive sales next month.
If prices don't go up much from current levels, we could see some good demand after Shradh, said Haresh Kewalramani, director of Bombay Bullion Association.
The rush of sales expected during two major Hindu festivals, Dussera and Dhanteras next month, when people buy gold for prosperity, is keeping demand for silver up, said Rajiv Popley, director at jewellery chain Popley & Sons.
We are looking at (selling) coins and bars, table ware, corporate gifts, even dishes and glasses, Popley said.
