Khairy Jamaluddin who is an Oxford graduate supported the scientific findings of the PSC Parliamentary Select Committee which was used by Najib to support the issuing of a full operating license for Lynas years ago.

Khairy Jamaluddin (BN-Rembau) in 2012 criticised the Opposition for threatening to boycott the PSC and not wanting to engage, adding that they were prejudicial and refused to listen to expert views.
“The government has proven that it practises transparency. The committee will provide answers to all concerns of the rakyat,” he said.

KUANTAN: The Lynas project operation by Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd in Gebeng here is safe and does not negatively impact the environment.

Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed said he was informed of the matter during a briefing on the company’s current status of operations.
.
He said the company had been in operation for three years already.
“The company operation is monitored round the clock and shows it is safe with no increase in radiation reading within one to 20 kilometres from the Lynas plant.
.
“If the allegation on radiation is true, the industrial area in Gebeng will not grow or be the choice of multi-national companies,” he said.
Mustapa was speaking to reporters at BASF Petronas Chemicals Sdn Bhd here today during his working visit to Kuantan to meet with Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob, corporate leaders, industry players, political leaders and the public.

He said the Lynas project involved investments of RM2.8 billion.
Currently, Lynas is conducting field research on soil conditioners generated from water leach purification residue, scheduled for completion in July next year, he said.

“I have suggested to the company’s top management to hold public forums to counter claims of people getting cancer, (as well as) the drop in property prices (because of the project as it) is not true,” he added.
