Too much read into Buffett, he does make mistakes. Which have become more frequent the last 5 years. Since 2003 bear market bottom Berkshire Hathaway has compouned at 10% per annum (last 10 years at 5% per annum). Anyone who bought ASX index in 2003 would have matched Buffetts performance even with pullback to 4800. His recent track record has not been outstanding, and the last 10years he has had the benefit of profile and ability to effectively front run his own trades ie takes position and announces this trade and others follow in mass. Bad trades that show a general lack of handle on change in markets/global economy include selling BHs large silver holding at large loss, within 6 weeks of breakout that doubled price of silver. Also shorted US dollar with all the mug punters approx 4 years ago before multiple month rally and again closed positions at heavy loss.He has his strategy that payed off in the past, but he is in his 70s and these are unprecedented economic times. My impression is he still has the witty quips, but is living off past glory.
