It seems that periodically Watchtower perceives the need to rev the foot soldiers up a bit with some more fear and gloom - part of that strategy appears to grab a few verses from the Book of Revelation, and create some fanciful prophecies from them.
By way of example this was done in 1975 when many JWs resigned from their jobs and sold houses as a result of Watchtower prophecies. When (surprise, surprise) nothing happened Watchtower distanced itself from their prophecies even claiming that they did not make them.
Today with litigation being more accessible to foot soldiers Watchtower should be a touch more careful. In any case litigation resulting from child abuse cases will likely keep them busy.
Entering a new faze of excitement? Certainly, with new opportunities to recruit through fear.
How to maintain the regiments of foot soldiers? Ensure that their education is limited by discouraging tertiary education for young people.
