A major power shortage looms in China and I tend to believe the coal price forecasts are correct:
    Look at the facts:

Thermal coal price expects to rebound on winter storing Wednesday, October 08, 2008

Thermal coal is likely to bounce back with the coming of coal storing for winter heating and the government’s strengthening consolidation over coal resources, analysts with Essence Securities predicted.
    Next:
Chinese steel mills are feeding thermal coal into their blast furnaces because they can’t secure enough coking coal. Chinese policymakers have just slapped an export tariff on coking coal exports — ensuring further price hikes in Australia’s largest coking coal export markets in Japan and Korea.
There is also a critical shortage of thermal coal that has forced Chinese power generators to cut production and risk electricity shortages and blackouts across the country.

Why Coal - the World's Forgotten Fossil Fuel - is About to Double in Price
China and India can't get enough of it and this coal company is reaping the rewards
So far in 2008, the price of coal has soared to record highs. And that's on top of its 73% markup in 2007.

But there are two major reasons why analysts believe that run will continue: China and India.
Demand has soared over the past several years, as emerging nations have undergone a rapid economic and industrial expansion.

Case in point, China now accounts for a quarter of the world's annual coal consumption. Coal provides 78% of its energy needs. On top of that, coal accounts for nearly 70% of India's energy supply.
If you're looking to play the price surge of coal, Money Morning Investment Director Keith Fitz-Gerald recommends a stock that's almost a surefire rocket rider.
