You can't pick any winners lately because there are none!
IMHO not only have a lot of the 'winner' opportunities provided by many spec miners and oilers disappeared (people know that even if they announce fantastic grades they have buckley's of turning it into a mine in this environment, where they would have tremendous difficulties securing loans for the large capital development amounts)
but 90% of spec miners and oilers have been made inherently worthless. They need to raise money to survive, but need a strong share price to raise money. But as long as they need to raise money to survive people will get scared and stay away, making the share price weaker and weaker. Thus it's a tough situation for most spec miners.
It's a completely changed game with regards to the spec miner and oilers scene than it was a couple of years ago.
Look on the bright side, it doesn't mean you're unlucky or unskilled at stock picking, it just means the markets are rotten.
