is my cash safe

gday all
just after a bit of advice/opinions from some people who are better educated than i
i sold most of my shares(the ones i held on to a worthless now anyway) and am sitting on 180k cash in a term deposit with a credit union ,8.5 % was too good to ignore
is this money safe?or with the current panic could i lose this as well
should i buy a swag of gold and build a safe?
at least i won a carton of beer when the all ords went below 4000 just now
