People thinking that we are over reacting to the virus here in Australia need to factor in that it's a winter disease and for this reason you can't just extrapolate from what we are seeing now in this country in terms of community transmission .
Transmission within the population will occur much more easily in the cooler damper conditions of winter as it has done in most northern hemisphere countries .
To support this you may notice that most southern hemisphere countries at present aren't having big infections yet .
A few northern hemisphere countries in Asia had bad infections and then controlled it but in many and in the US the disease is rampant .
Our leaders are not fools and the disruptions are not to save a handful of people but to save thousands .
