I live in Vietnam where most of my friends are lucky to earn $100 a month. Two friends of mine work 6 days a week for $70 US a month in secretarial roles. Yesterday i was chatting to another friend that works in a coffee shop. She is from the country and has come to the city to study. She works full time and gets $100 a month (6 days). Her rent is about $30 month, but she shares a room with another friend. She has $60 a month left for the rest of the month. The main dish is pho which costs about about $1 (was 70c but inflation has been a prob). She somehow manages to live a life, study, eat and have some sort of a social life on just. She has to buy petrol and eat more than once a day. I don't know how she does it. Also, there is not much scope for her to earn much more. She asked me yesterday how much i earn. I've been overloaded with bills etc (the material sh&t that means so much to us) and have been a little stressed. She now thinks I am a millionaire, but I am on just an average wage. I look at her and think that she is so happy and really doesn't know any different. We take things for granted and really don't know what it is like to do it tough. Over here, it's not uncommon to see an 80yo woman carting bricks. They do it because they have to and they don't know any different. Every time i stress out or worry about things, i just look out my window. Things could be much worse. Oh, spare a thought for the farmer that earns less than a $1 a day. Also, if they don't get the weather they need, they basically don't eat for the next year.
