We don't need to give every punter who turns up with a cold or the flu or a headache a hard to get and possibly expensive virus specific test.
At the point of testing, the health care professional should ask the patient some questions to determine what test is most appropriate.
From what I understand, the symptoms of COVID-19 generally evolve over a number of days. Symptoms generally start with the fever and fatigue. If the patient says that their symptoms started at least three days ago, an antibody test would be appropriate IMHO. I'm not an expert but the logic speaks for itself.
The short version is that anyone who can't shake a cold or the flu within a few days must be tested.
