I don't know what you mean by 'opposing verses', all I have seen in that area is a total lack of understanding on the part of the critic. Most of them don't even grok the definition of 'contradiction' and apply the word to anything that's a bit hard for them to think about or research.

I'd say it is theists who puts aside the definition of a contradiction when it comes to their own holy book, but see contradictions clearly enough when it comes to the holy books of other religions.
