in korea where I am based, the borders aren't closed and there is no lockdown. All shops and stores are operating normally. Everyone wears a mask and me too when I am teaching.
Whether masks are effective, well who knows but they wear them in hospitals anyway. The buses and subways seem to be busy as usual but some people are working remotely from home. There is a lot of free sanitiser around and people are encouraged to keep their hands cleaned.
I can't help thinking that the news media are over dramatising this virus unnecessarily when the fatality rates are not much worse than the common flu. According to simon thornley, lecturer at akld uni, why squash a flee with a sledgehammer.
