Hi ukidding, you need to check your math. 42000 deaths out of 853000 total cases is about a 5% death rate. Not insignificant.

In reality though, if you get this virus one of two things is going to happen, you’ll either recover (possibly with on-going health issues if you have a severe dose?) or you will die.

So if you look at the 42000 deaths out of the 219000 resolved cases (rather than total cases because so many of those aren’t resolved yet), you get a death rate of 19%. That’s significant, and this metric has been tracking at this level for weeks now as more cases get resolved.

And if like me you don’t trust any of the statistics supplied by China for this virus, and strip them out of the calculations, you get a death rate of 27% for the “rest of world” resolved cases. That’s really significant, and this metric should be more widely reported.

This resolved cases death rate will surely (hopefully?) come down as better testing and treatment rolls out globally, but it has remained stubbornly high for weeks now, and we should be paying more attention to it in my opinion.

    Regards,

    GJC.
