Fair point billy. Imagine if Bill Shorten was in charge though, and announced free childcare in the same circumstances, would your response be the same though? Would conservative commentators support it, be quiet about it, or make it an issue? Would Murdoch media support it or rail against it like Shorten was the Antichrist?
Do people support the spending because it's good policy or because Morrison is on their team? Should we focus more on the details of policy and whether it will work, and less on personality and political affiliation?
(Disclaimer: I actually think low-cost, high-quality child care is great for the economy and Australians. I would prefer it not be introduced on "back of a napkin" calculations though. Got to pay for it.)
