"Unless the government warns travelers before they leave, the government have no right to recoup costs from any detainee."
Don't get me wrong, I have sympathy for those who assumed their plans to accept 2 weeks isolation at home should enable them to undertake necessary travel. That's also what the Government had hoped. However, as we know, that was a wrong assumption.
Never the less, due to the rapid escalation, it is not a clear cut situation which is presumably why the Government decided Australian taxpayers will foot the bill at the moment.
At what point do you think that should change ? For how long can travelers plead ignorance about the obvious risk in traveling OS and demand that others pay for their poor judgment ?
Just as a matter of interest, what was the Government advice regarding overseas travel when your sister left and when she was in a position to return ... which presumably would have been at the destination airport shortly after arrival ?
