The reason I say it is hard to compare is the same as for High Speed Rail, Mass transit etc.
People live in shoebox apartments in masssive apartment blocks allowing for economies of scale.
You could have 5G transmitters reaching a 1000 x more people than what they have here.
I am not saying that you shouldn't do it, or that it isn't a good investment at all.
I am only saying with the urban sprawl we have it isn't as good as a comparison to base ourselves on. We should look to the USA or other western countries where the spacing is more similar. And from what I have read it is taking off there.
