Rapid antigen test certainly has a role to play in detection of positive patients after the pandemic is contained and probably after the vaccine is out. However what we don't know is that if you have antibodies against sars-cov-2, does it stop you from getting infected again? If it is yes (lots of studies currently suggest otherwise), it will have some use but if the answer is no, what is the point? It's something we will find out in the near future.Side note:
I want to make sure to those people who think rapid antigen tests are useless, that's certainly not true.In day to day laboratory settings in Australia, most common rapid antigen tests include detection of malaria and infectious mononucleosis.They are usually run in conjunction with other methods to confirm the test results but if it is positive we can be sure that it is true positive. So the clinician can treat patients accordingly.
