Hotrod - thx for reply, most of those side impact collisions I would bet are people turning across on the orange light getting cleaned up by those running the orange or even the red - people just going through a red light 2 seconds after they have turned red and hitting the traffic on the green either are been chased by police, crazy, or havent seen the red at all - like going through stop signs.
In my sunny locale, of the 6 sets of RLC's I can think of, only one is set up in the right direction at an intersection where turning right across the traffic is allowed - the most obvious blackspot in Newcastle in fact set the camera up so it photographed the poor people who were being t boned, and 6 months later withdrew the right turn in both directions anyway. Like anything if the RTA show no intelligence in setting it up in the first place, people will see it a s revenue raising only.
The one that is set up right, is on a down hill 3 lane road, where the turn is into a minor road - the computer could be flicked over to red arrow or green arrow in five minutes and stop all those accidents and not greatly effect traffic - a combined speed RLC, will surely cause a great number of Rear enders (especially on the concrete (low grip) road surface.
Remember that every rear ender is also a potential t bone also
