No problems.
I agree, each downfall has been unique in its characteristics.
Looking at 1987 reversal, there is no obvious reversal pattern in the chart.
But utilising simple, fundamental technical indicators, (trendlines + MACD for example) you would have been able to get in close to the bottom.
And made plenty of $$ in the successive recovery.
MACD divergence on successive lows on the daily + broken trenline.
MACD crossover + broken trendline on the weekly.
