the bdi chart looks too wild, like the share market. perhaps it has a speculative element as well? look at the troughs! but yeah a moving average wld be a trusty indicator. thanks again for the lesson.
on ships. in practical terms, a ship owner would be paying interest and mite hav to default if there are no bookings giving the yields to pay the interest on the loan. perhaps u lose a ship like a house. ok not too bad. except if a $60m ship 5yrs ago cannot be sold now for $40m u be better off paying the interest instead of owing a bank 20m or less.
can see now that owning a ship is very risky. it has come to mind because i heard it has been pushed as investment opportunity o/s and i mite be wrong but some peoples wealth are gonna take serious haircuts here.
posted about this last nite as i thought someone mite know the dynamics and risks of owning ships. (apparently was better than commercial properties)
