Jatter- did the panco trial demonstrate a statistically significant overall reduction in pain? I could find no evidence of it from any company materials, including academic presentations. How is it known if device analgesic effect is better than or adds anything to usual care? I agree pain is important but as a symptom-based endpoint it's very challenging in a trial like this due to factors such as placebo effect, well known phenomenon in trials. ALso, chemotherapy itself is known to reduce pain in pancreatic cancer, for example LAPACT trial of gem-abraxane in LAPC (same backbone chemo as used in panco) showed that 65% patients achieved pain reduction (this is on the clinicaltrials.gov site in results section). We also don't know what other pain-relieving therapies were provided to patients in panco (e.g. celiac block, standard radiotherapy). So even if the panco OSL trial did show some improvement in pain overall, I disagree it can be proved to be due to device. as I said before, i'll continue to hold but would love to see their final trial results and their future research plans.
