If you are buying now the dividend will be ok given they do not cut the dividends excessively but for shareholders who bought in at the mid to high twenties the returns are average and I would doubt the returns will ever get back to the high payouts of the past, looking back the banks have made some disastrous blunders over the last 10 years their investments overseas have cost shareholders billions and their combined treatment of Australian customers has been a disgrace.
Investment in the banks when Australians are leading the world in personal debt ,low interest margins, slow economic growth and a housing downturn the signs are not good from my experience running my investments I bought heavily into the banks in the GFC and had a good run for a few years but there has been no growth just dividends and now dividends are being cut because their businesses are contracting, they did not invest in growth they just made poor investment decision and lost share holder wealth, compare them to MQG who made good investments and now the banks are really just focused on Australia and with technology they will shed staff and cut costs but not grow.
