ok - can accept that ---

so, that means that numbers aren't a factor so much and that 'space' and 'position' actually works against us

which is why I was saying that we were stuck at the r's end of the world


I think us Ozzies miss so much that's very very obviously negative -- we concentrate on the positive like space - one big bit of dirt - one nation - yes, got that - but, we miss


we are a bloody long long long way from anywhere
we have a huge bit of dirt - but, no one in it
our bit of dirt runs north and south as well as east and west (and, the EW bit has an issue) --- see below*
we aren't all that well educated at all
we have very very conservative ways and governments - no matter which party
that conservatism worked well in 1950 - into the 60's a bit - then, some bugger invented the pill and things began to move more rapidly
then, of course some bugger invented the computer - then the iphone and then all hell broke loose in the technological race - in which Oz has not a snowballs chance in hell of keeping UP - let alone being in front because of it's conservatism



* the north and south bit as opposed to the east and west bit is VERY IMPORTANT


look at any empire through history ------------- they all stretch out east and west - like sort of sausages ----------- there ain't no sausage that runs north south ------------- why is that?

it's because once you have development done in one area - you can extend out left and right and you have the same climatic conditions - now, for the world - that works well - if you go up or down - you have to have different systems, different plants different many things

Oz has the same characteristics --------- BUT - it has issues -

a bloody big thing called the great dividing range - on which side things are vastly different to the other -- so, Oz doesn't gain full advantage like most of the rest of the globe does

that means the rest of it is stretched out in a long long sausage down from north to south along the coast ----- the worst possible way to develop
