Give it time, the situation in USA will get worse and worse I have no doubt. Unfortunately for the citizens of the US they are lacking true leadership that cares fore people first and economies later.
China on the other hand does care for it's people I believe and they will also begin to ramp up efforts to protect and restore the environment which is another area the US is sincerely lacking.
This is why PET will do well to focus on regions that have equal pressure from depleted waterways and governments who are taking steps to reverse environmental impacts for the good of humanity.
The US lacks on all accounts of the latter unfortunately.
