Gee, I feel a bit stupid on this. Like I really should know better but-: It seems I've never known or have simply forgotten just what all the need for cooling is about anyway. It has been discussed here in the past with some innovative ideas presented then. I guess it must be that there is a need to cool the exhaust steam and condensates from the turbine to return it to a fully liquid state before pumping it back through the secodary heat exchanger to regenerate to full pressure superheated steam.
Can someone please tell me if this is in fact what the cooling requirement is for?
It does seem regrettable that after drilling down 5km. to collect heat you have to just waft a good deal of it away to atmosphere for any reason.
